What Is the Difference Between a Thermoplastic Coating and a Thermoset Powder Coating?

Whilst a thermoset coating is usually a decorative, thin film coating, thermoplastic coatings are functional coatings with the main following features:

  • Thick film coating, starting from 300 µm
  • Flexible
  • Extremely tough and resilient to mechanical and chemical stress
  • Warm touch

How Do You Apply Thermoplastic Coatings?

Unlike thermoset coatings, the thermoplastic coating does not require any chemical curing. The melt process of the polymer is the basis of the coating process and is consequently very rapid. The metallic substrate is first preheated, the Abcite is applied and then flows to form a smooth surface. After cooling, the coated pieces are immediately ready to be used.
