Consumer Color Preferences Survey

Axalta’s Automotive Color Preferences Consumer Survey provides insights on color and paint preferences from vehicle owners, and is aimed at analyzing the relationship between color and vehicle purchasing decisions among consumers.

According to Axalta’s 2022 Automotive Color Preferences Survey in Mexico, red (21%) is the preferred color of participants for the fourth consecutive year, followed by black (18%) and white (15%). Red was a favorite for both women and men in Mexico and has been increasingly popular since Axalta’s first survey in 2019.

“Our survey helps us better understand automotive consumers and their decision making, and potential future trends to develop appropriate technologies that meet industry needs,” said Daniel Salcido, president of Axalta Mexico.

The survey also revealed the colors owned by automotive consumers and the relevance of sustainability throughout the manufacturing process:

  • 18% of the participants said they had a red car, while white and gray follow closely with 17% each, mainly sedans and compact cars.
  • White color is predominant for women, while men own mainly red and gray cars.
  • Red stood out by the respondents as an elegant and modern color.
  • 74% of the participants, mainly men and women between 25 and 45 years of age, considered that it is very or extremely important that the value chain in the manufacture of their vehicles is committed to sustainability.

“With 150 years of color experience, along with our culture of agility and customer focus, we are uniquely positioned to help our customers navigate the challenges in the industry and support their needs by offering new and valuable information on color trends,” added Hans Paetau, director of Mobility for Axalta Mexico.
