Is the vote just for production and the warehouses or everyone? Who is eligible to vote?
This vote applies to hourly Operations and Technology employees, not just Production or Warehouse teams. Both full-time and part-time hourly employees are eligible to vote, while salaried employees are not included. If you are unsure whether your role falls under hourly Operations or Lab, please contact HR for clarification.
Why wouldn't I be allowed to talk to the media if the decision about a union is up to me? Does this mean that expressing my opinions and thoughts to the media is an offense worth termination? What if I oppose the union?
The decision to support or oppose a union is entirely yours, and you are free to hold and express your personal views. The media restriction is only about who can speak on behalf of Axalta, not about your right to an opinion. Employees are not disciplined for supporting or opposing a union; issues only arise if someone claims to represent Axalta, shares confidential information, or implies their personal view is the company’s position. If speaking publicly, it must be clear you are speaking only for yourself, not for Axalta.
How will we be able to vote if we have planned PTO for the week of the vote?
Per the NLRB’s regulations, there is no absentee ballot process for the election. Even if you are on PTO or leave you are eligible to vote, but you will need to come in-person to vote to voice your opinion on the future of the Axalta Mt. Clemens facility.
Why are we classified as a production facility and not a chemical facility?
Unions cannot dictate how a site is classified. Site classification is determined by federal regulatory agencies based on operations and materials. Per the North American Industry Classification system (NAICS), Axalta is classified the same as similar coatings companies, including Sherwin Williams and PPG Industries
