Axalta breaks ground on new state-of-the-art refinish facility in the Netherlands

New facility to feature a training centre for refinish customers to improve and build new skills to grow their businesses

BASEL, SWITZERLAND – 22 June 2020 – Axalta (NYSE: AXTA), a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, broke ground on 19 June on its new, 7,250 square-metre state-of-the-art facility to support its Refinish business in the Netherlands. The new facility will be equipped with the latest technology and energy-saving features. Construction at the site in Tiel is expected to be completed by mid-2021.

Tiel Councillor Ben Brink and Yves Kerstens, President of Axalta in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), broke ground at a ceremony to mark the event, which was attended by members of the Axalta European Leadership Team and the Management Team in the Netherlands.

“The investment in this facility is important to the future growth and long-term success of our Refinish business in Europe,” said Yves Kerstens, President of Axalta in EMEA. “Our new Tiel facility will feature state-of-the-art technologies that will enable productivity and sustainability, which will benefit our business and help us maximise service to customers. We are committed to investing in the future of Axalta in ways that will help us keep the needs of our customers at the forefront.”

The Axalta global Refinish brands in the Netherlands, which includes the world-renowned Cromax®, Spies Hecker®, Standox® and SyroxTM brands – as well as Metalak BV – will relocate to the new facility in Business Park Medel. Once completed, the facility will feature three floors of office space, a warehouse and a new Axalta Refinish Training Centre, where customers can hone their skillsets using cutting-edge technology and advanced techniques. The facility will also have a separate mixing room, which is part of Axalta’s direct point-of-distribution that services both high-volume customers as well as local colour development.

“The new Training Centre in Tiel will further our commitment to customers with training that will help them be more efficient and more productive,” added Kerstens. “It will be the latest of 47 other Training Centres that Axalta offers to customers around the world that are helping them improve their business performance.”

The new facility in Tiel follows the opening in 2019 of two new Training Centres, one in Midrand, South Africa and one in Sydney, Australia.

Business Park Medel is a modern business park that embraces green management, sustainability and security. Being in the centre of the Netherlands, it offers easy accessibility to major transport routes, ensuring Axalta can remain close to its customers across the country.
