Axalta’s Energy Solutions to exhibit at two shows in September

Voltatex® 4224 will feature at the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo in Novi, Michigan, USA, and at Coiltech in Pordenone, Italy

Basel, Switzerland – 19 August 2019 – Axalta, a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, is exhibiting the entire range of products from its Energy Solutions business at the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo (EHVTE), taking place in Novi, Michigan, USA, from 10 to 12 September 2019, on Stand 1617. Axalta is also exhibiting at Coiltech – the fastest growing exhibition for the Coil and Winding industry - in Pordenone, Italy, on 25 and 26 September 2019, on Stand B4, Hall 5.

At EHVTE, Axalta’s special focus will be on the recently-launched Voltatex® 4224. This low-emission impregnating resin allows for the design of smaller and more efficient motors, and for the significant reduction of the operating temperatures of standard design motors. Voltatex 4224 has a thermal conductivity that is more than double, even up to six times higher - 0.5 and 1.2 W/mK - compared to most standard impregnating resins.

Dr Christoph Lomoschitz, Global Product Manager for Axalta’s Energy Solutions business, will give a Lightening Technology Talk on Rethinking Motor Design Using Thermally Conductive Secondary Insulation, at EHVTE on 11 September. He says, “Heat in an electric device increases intrinsic resistivity of the conductors and leads to thermal degradation of the insulating materials. And it is well known that heat dissipation is one of the most important drivers for efficient motors, so it is vital that any secondary insulation needs to maintain good impregnating properties at increased thermal conductivity.”

The technology Axalta used to formulate Voltatex 4224 has resulted in a resin that improves the heat transfer from the copper winding to the steel core causing less thermal stress in motors’ components, so that motors can run more efficiently and be smaller.

At Coiltech, Voltatex 4224 will also be showcased on Axalta’s stand, alongside demonstrations of the newly-developed LILIT® (Light In-Line Insulation Test). Axalta’s customers have exclusive access to LILIT - a product from Italian technology company TAU Industrial Robotics - which monitors and documents the drying consistency of coatings as they are produced.

“By bringing TAU’s LILIT technology to our customers, we are making their quality control much better and more efficient, as well as improving process accuracy and overall electrical steel quality,” Lomoschitz concludes.
