Process Engineer - Paint Manufacturing Full Time - Regular Mount Clemens MI 3096
Axalta Coating Systems is seeking an experienced paint manufacturing process engineer to join its dynamic  Global Manufacturing Technology Team and will be located in Front Royal (VA) or our  Mt Clemens (MI) site.
 
The Global Manufacturing Technology team leads develops and supports implementation of manufacturing process and Lean manufacturing best practices  for the automotive OEM, refinish, commercial transportation, and general industrial markets, liquid and powders products. 

 
Job Responsibilities


  • Interacts/networks with internal and external organizations in their areas of expertise.
  • Carries out demanding programs / studies in order to generate process technology improvements of significant business impact. Understands our Global Manufacturing Technology Landscape and makes prioritized improvement proposals.
  • Works closely with business, site manufacturing and Technology teams to define and prioritize and goals (quality, cost, asset productivity, and SHE). Coordinates effective project prioritization and leveraging of manufacturing technology manufacturing processes, best practices and resources to deliver business results.
  • Development manufacturing technical resources at sites, building the functioning capabilities needed to support productive, efficient and safe operation of plants. 
  •  Lead the design, basic data development, commissioning and start-up activities of paint manufacturing processes.  (Mixing, Milling, filtration, packaging etc..)
  • Propose, documents and implements manufacturing standard best practices
  • Identifies/prioritizes and implements technology upgrades that result in improved processes
  • Develop and lead the implementation of solutions to the most challenging technical issues and provides technical support to all plants.  Assists and resources manufacturing troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Resources  manufacturing sites and personnel  to improve, uptime, cost savings, product  yield quality  and safety
  • Delivers and helps justify  cost improvement opportunities through plant manufacturing technology strategic business/technology direction
  • Leads and maintains a large active technical network.  Work with metrics and propose leveraging opportunities between sites
  • Lead “Product by process” effort  (process controls and automation to improve process capability)
  • Coordinate key work and new initiatives  with Ops and Technical and involves broader organization R&D /Marketing to address key improvement opportunities
  • Get work done through Influence management across R&D, manufacturing technology, and operations
  • Drive lean manufacturing through our lean network. 
  • Develops plant manufacturing technology personnel.

Requirements:

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering with more than eight years’ experience  with paint chemistry and manufacturing technology
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical programs and develop new technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and contribute in a  team environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Knowledge and use of designed experimentation and statistical data analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of particle science and technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and/or support others in a team environment.
  • Close work with sites in improvement implementation.
  • Willing to travel globally approximately 60% of time.
 
Experience in some or all of the following:  

  • Mixing, media milling, filtration, packaging  manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Paint plant equipment selection, paint manufacturing process design and process start-ups.
  • Scale up and product introduction and alignment.
  • Quality system requirements including TS-16949.
  • Trouble shooting and process improvement.
  • Paint manufacturing  process design, commissioning and start-up of processes.
  • Quality and safety investigations and root cause failure analysis.
  • General Process Control Systems form paint manufacturing process.
