Axalta’s Color Trend Show, a staple for more than 30 years, is wrapping up in 2018 global tour to rave reviews. Named “COLOR vIEw,” Axalta color experts traveled around the world to meet with OEM customers and share color forecasts and technology touch points.
“This year’s show looked at both data-based color decisions and emotion-based preferences,” explains Axalta Global Color Marketing Manager Nancy Lockhart. “Customers anticipate this discussion every year, and the 2018 show sparked intense conversations on both color today and where we are going.”
Trends fell into two categories: i-telligence (data-driven) and e-motion (emotional). Each category had more than 20 colors exhibiting both global and regional-specific color preferences.
In addition to the trends, color technology was highlighted in four interest areas:
- Bio-based – colors sensitive to the environment
- “Cool” paint – hues that reflect heat
- Autonomous – colors designed for LIDAR and RADAR detectability
- New Technologies – pigments driving color
“Automakers take information from our Color Trend Show and our Global Color Popularity Report back into their studios to determine future color line-ups,” Lockhart continues. “Colors from this show could populate dealer showrooms in the very near future.”
