Second Annual Coatings Innovation Symposium Focuses on New Breakthroughs and the Advancement of Forward-Looking Operations Models and Sustainability
SHANGHAI, CHINA – June 27, 2019: Axalta (NYSE: AXTA), a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, today hosted its second annual Coatings Innovation Symposium at its Asia Pacific Technology Center in Shanghai, China. Themed “Innovation Creates Value,” the Symposium gathers more than 100 customers, industry association representatives, academia, and employees to explore and discuss the key trends that are driving the coating industry, as well as the overall commitment to advancing sustainable development in China.
Dr. Barry Snyder, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Axalta, gave the keynote address on “Innovation Creates Value”, and a panel, which included representatives from Axalta, industry associations, academia and the media, discussed the impact of global mega trends on coatings and coatings innovation. The Symposium also featured an open forum, the launch of an industry report on Sustainable Coatings and Technology Applications for Commercial and Rail Vehicles in China, and a University student project update.

Axalta’s Sustainable Coatings and Technology Applications for Commercial and Railway Vehicles in China report was developed in conjunction with the Coating Commission of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China. Axalta also unveiled its rebranded Imron® products in China. Imron products are high-performance sustainable coating solution for commercial vehicles.

Axalta’s 2019 Automotive Color Trend Report, “Color Combo” was also discussed at the symposium. The automotive color predictions in the report consider the emerging transportation market of autonomous vehicles, specialized vehicle types, and regional preferences. The annual launch of the color report together with Axalta’s annual color popularity report showcase Axalta’s value in working with customers in the early stages of the color styling, allowing automotive companies to create products that appeal to car owners.
Attendees of this year’s symposium witness the growth of Axalta’s partnership with the School of Automotive Studies of Shanghai Tongji University with the signing of another three-year cooperation agreement. Axalta will continue to support three student racing teams as part of both parties’ continued collaboration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The collaboration is part of Axalta’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment in China, which incorporates education and sustainability.
