Axalta has been in the business of sustainability for more than 150 years, using technology to develop innovative products and services that make materials last longer, perform better and look beautiful in the process.

We welcome your interest in learning more about sustainability at Axalta. Our report covers our accomplishments in 2016 and 2017 during which time we took important steps to expand and implement our vision of what sustainability means at Axalta. We established an Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Committee of the Board of Directors to oversee policies and strategies to guide our business. We dedicated additional management resources to fully leverage and integrate our new sustainability initiatives across the company and also to recognize opportunities for improvement.

Sustainability is a priority for our many stakeholders. More than 100,000 Axalta customers produce a diverse array of products ranging from passenger and commercial vehicles and electrical components to appliances and building materials. As different as their businesses are, our customers share a vision of minimizing the impact of their operations on the environment by reducing emissions, energy use and waste and by improving productivity. Our report highlights Axalta products that contribute to our customers’ sustainability goals, such as coatings for lighter weight cars that consume less fuel, products that prevent corrosion and conserve natural resources and other products that support the enhanced performance of electric vehicles. We also report on our efforts to ensure we conduct our business in a socially responsible manner along our entire value chain, from the materials we buy and process to the ways in which our products are used.

Around the clock and around the world, Axalta’s employees are developing and manufacturing our products or working side-by-side with our customers enabling them to optimize the use of our coatings. Our more than 13,000 employees are critical to our sustained success. Our report explains our efforts to ensure the health and safety of our employees and support their development and job satisfaction as they pursue their careers with us. We also recognize the important work we do to protect the communities where our employees live and work by holding our manufacturing facilities to rigorous environmental standards.

We also give back to our communities by supporting programs that promote environmental stewardship and the STEM disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our support for wetlands conservation reflects the need for clean water, protected wildlife habits and recreation for everyone. Our support for educational programs reflects that, as a technology-driven company, we recognize the critical importance of STEM-trained students.

On behalf of all of us at Axalta, I hope this report provides you with new insights into our business and the ways in which we embrace sustainability.
