At Axalta, water quality and availability are important to our stakeholders including our employees and the communities in which we operate in. Therefore, we continue to evaluate and optimize our water use in our operations and manage our water resources through conservation and reuse.

Goal

By year-end 2022, reduce water use by 10 percent (normalized to production) from a baseline year of 2017.

In 2017, our water consumption from all sources for global operations was 1.76 million cubic meters. This is a 7 percent increase from 2015, resulting from an increase in production from our acquisitions in the last two years.

We have invested in on-site wastewater treatment facilities for some of our manufacturing sites globally. The on-site treatment allows us to reduce our effluents and waste during manufacturing. The treated water is often recycled back into our operations, reducing the amount of water we withdraw from local municipalities.

We recently expanded our Jiading wastewater treatment plant in greater Shanghai. As part of the expansion, we installed additional waste treatment equipment that can manage 25 percent more wastewater. The new, highly efficient equipment will also result in energy savings of 3,650 kWh per year. The installation also reduced waste disposal of drums of water that eventually made their way to landfills.
