The STEM education initiatives, events and programs that Axalta—and the organizations with which we partner—support are designed to benefit both K-12 and university students and institutions.

To raise the visibility of STEM curricula and excellence classroom experiences, we have continued to sponsor the Axalta All-Pro Teachers program in partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles football franchise. The program recognizes outstanding sixth through 12th grade teachers concentrating on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Former or current school principals, students, colleagues, as well as members of the community can nominate teachers in school districts throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. Based on their educational drive, innovation in the classroom and community interest in their curriculum, 10 teachers are selected as an All-Pro Teacher and recognized at an Eagles home game during the football season. Each teacher’s school will receive a monetary donation from Axalta for STEM programming or school supplies, tickets to an Eagles home game, a personalized Eagles jersey and football, and a nomination for Axalta All-Pro Teacher of the Year. At the end of each award season, one of the ten teachers is selected as the Axalta All-Pro Teacher of the Year, and receives an additional donation to his or her school, an Eagles Pep Rally hosted at their school and a vacation for two.

In the Detroit, Michigan area, close to the headquarters of some of the largest U.S. auto makers, Axalta continued its support of Drive One Detroit which provides at-risk high school youth with trade skills in the automotive sector. Student projects have included fabricating and coating kids’ pedal cars to contributing to Axalta’s Automotive Color of the Year programs.

In Detroit and Philadelphia, Axalta supports two of the leading institutions of STEM education in the United States. The Michigan Science Center (MiSci) provides innovation and interactive education in Detroit and across the state of Michigan. Our sponsorships have helped to underwrite free admissions at MiSci and maintenance of special light and color displays. In Philadelphia, Axalta has supported the Franklin Institute, including our annual participation in the Philadelphia Science Festival. Axalta's booth each year presents a different aspect of color technology and a hands on learning experience for kids.

Axalta also supports STEM-based programs elsewhere around the globe. In Europe, we embarked on a relationship with the STEM Alliance in 2017, which builds programming for high school-aged children. STEM Alliance brings together industries, ministries of education and education stakeholders to promote STEM education and careers to young Europeans and address anticipated future skills gaps within the European Union. A unique aspect of the organization that Axalta will participate in is the STEM Professionals Go Back To School, which encourages volunteers from STEM industries like ours—including technicians, scientists, engineers and researchers—and teachers to organize career talks and collaborative activities in schools.
